Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening

Vivid Art Gallery is hosting an exhibit for featured artist Patricia Dolan and her newest collection of work, Pistevo "Believe," throughout the month of September. On Friday, September 5^th, the gallery will have an opening for Patricia’s abstract waterscape work, for which she will be in attendance. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist and discuss her work with her during the event, which will run from 5 to 7 PM.  
 
Dolan works in oil, using both brushes and palette knives to create thick layers and textured edges. In describing her newest work, Dolan says, “This exhibit represents a chapter in my Pelagos ‘infinite sea’ series, inspired by the Aegean Sea, fused with the majestic Lake Michigan. As with my other work in this series, my paintings reflect the force and ever-changing energy of water and my primal relationship to it.” Dolan feels the water connects her to herself, and, as she interacts with the paint, conversations between color, texture, mark, and rhythm arise, which take her to unexpected and unknown places.
 
Dolan’s work is often defined by a largely tonal color palette, with dark and light blues reflecting the mood of the water and sky. Regarding the specific inspiration for the work in her newest exhibit, which features a broader array of colors, she says, “The name of my show, Pistevo, is a philosophical metaphor reflecting on the belief in the universal journey of life. This work aims to reflect this concept; varying color and texture play together to evoke deep emotion, while creating a fluidity of dimension. The diverse palette gracefully presents a message of subtlety and strength, exuding passion with an immersion of senses, as each piece speaks with an infinity of spirit.”
 
In addition to the opening at Vivid on September 5^th, a number of other local businesses will participate in First Friday and have extended hours, featuring promotions and libations, and live music, including local band Steely Dad, will fill the district.
