Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
Vivid Art Gallery is hosting a show for special exhibitor Meghan Borah during the month of July. Entitled Rainy Day Women, it will show a variety of Borah’s newest paintings, which consists of work that reflecting the female experience. The gallery will be holding an opening for the exhibit on Friday, July 10th, from 5-7 PM, in conjuncture with the Hubbard Woods Design District’s First Friday event. Please note that, due to the 4th of July holiday, the opening will occur on the second Friday of the month rather than the 1st.
Meghan Borah’s paintings of imagined women evoke the faded surfaces of vintage fabrics and decorative textiles. She creates her work using distemper, a glue-based medium which provides a soft, warm surface. She augments this with areas of glass beads, that adds a rich tactile dimension that effectively conveys the mood of the work. This effect is particularly striking as Borah’s expressionless, female-presenting figures occupy dreamlike scenarios that may not be as tranquil as they first appear. Their faces appear aloof and almost impatient, suggesting the presence of some type of negotiation between the public, outward facade and private inner feelings.
Borah states, “Appearances are a significant part of everyone’s lived experience. How others view us plays an intrinsic role in how we view ourselves. My paintings are a reflection of the ways we react to this and the emotions that we feel. Regardless of what my paintings depict, they show the continued reality of these feelings, whether sitting in contemplation or playing an instrument.” Borah’s paintings reflect the inner conflict present in many surrounding the way we look; they are an ongoing examination of how we see and present ourselves and how we may sometimes long to become someone else.
Please stop by the gallery for the opening or during the month of July to see this unique new work.
