The Householder Life: Grace Under Fire
Mr. Gabriel Halpern, Director of Yoga Circle, will speak on the topic, The Householder Life: Grace Under Fire. How do family life and relationships embody spiritual values? They certainly test them! But they also provide a forum for developing the most noble qualities of service, loyalty, compassion, understanding, and selfless love. Gabriel will draw from his personal experience on how yoga, first in a monastic setting and then in a business and a committed relationship, brings out the best in what we are capable of sharing.
Mr. Halpern holds a B.A. in Philosophy, an MA in Health Psychology, and was trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institutes in San Francisco and Pune, India. He has practiced since 1970 and gives workshops nationally. He started the Yoga Circle in 1985 and has been its director ever since. For the past 20 years Gabriel has also been a core performance faculty member at DePaul University’s Theater Department. He has 44 years of experience with Hindu Gurus, Buddhist Monks, Hasidic Rabbis, Christian Anchorites, Sufi Shaykhs, Native American Shamans, Celtic Wiccans, Occultists and Alchemists of all persuasions. Owing to the direct influence of BKS Iyengar and four decades of continuous study, Gabriel’s teaching is all that is yoga: zeal in practice, science, art form, lifestyle, and mystical mentoring.
