Great Decisions
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
by Ronald Weitzer
by Ronald Weitzer
Almost every nation has enacted laws criminalizing human trafficking, and interantional organizations, governments, and NGOs sponsor a large variety of projects to curb trafficking and slavery. Billions of dollars have been allocated to these efforts. What is the interantional community doing to combat slavery and trafficking? What are the experiences like for those being trafficked?
Everyone reads the short 20ish-page background article in the study guide before each week's discussion and some people will find additional articles in current newspapers or other publications. Each meeting begins with a brief video updating the topic and launching the discussion. Participants take turns leading the weekly discussion or bringing treats to stimulate thinking.
All of you news junkies and foreign affairs addicts who want to talk about something beyond the U.S. presidency, this is your chance!! The Great Decisions discussion series sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth, in cooperation with the Winnetka Northfield Library District offer you the opportunity to talk about important current foreign relations issues.
