NORTHFIELD LIONS CLUB SPONSORS FREE RETINOPATHY SCREENING
NORTHFIELD LIONS CLUB SPONSORS FREE RETINOPATHY SCREENING
The Northfield Lions Club will sponsor free retinopathy screening to visitors at the Northfield Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning, August 16, from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. The Farmer’s Market is located on Happ Rd. directly across from New Trier High School Northfield Campus, just south of Winnetka Rd. No appointments are necessary.
Screenings are made possible by a specially equipped mobile unit provided by the Lions Foundation of Illinois that travels throughout Illinois. Working in conjunction with Illinois Retina Associates, the program is designed to screen people throughout the state who are in high-risk categories for diabetic retinopathy. The mobile unit carries a non-mydriatic camera with digital imaging capability which photographs the retina. These digital images (computer photos) of the retina are reviewed by professional staff at Illinois Retina Associates. Those found to exhibit symptoms of these retinal diseases after screening are encouraged to seek the ophthalmologic assistance of their choice.
The Northfield Lions Club is a well-known service organization that includes and encourages membership from several north suburban communities and is open to men, women and teens. The Club is active in programs assisting the sight- and hearing-impaired, as well as fund-raising for over a dozen local non-profits of all varieties.
