SUMMARY:Technology Series: Word or Pages or Google Docs? Numbers or Excel or Google Sheets? PowerPoint or Keynote or Google Slides?
DESCRIPTION:Hands-On Technology Lunch Series: Making Sense of an Ever Changing World\n\nIntroducing an eight-part\, hands on technology series led by two independent and experienced educational trainers representing both the Apple and Microsoft platforms. Everyday users who are faced with softwares from different platforms in a mixed technology world should attend the nine- part program as a series\, or can pick-and-choose which topics are most applicable to their lives A light lunch will be included. The programs are typically held the second Monday of the month.\n\n\n\nPart 1\n\nWhen our computing hardware is pre-determined by our employer\, we are relieved of the burden of making a difficult choice. However\, small businesses and independent professionals don't have that luxury. We have to make decisions about what devices to buy. To complicate matters\, the lines between our personal and work devices are frequently blurred. For example\, we may have an iPhone for personal use but you may run your business from it as well. So how do you choose between all the different devices on the market?\nThere is no one right answer. Apple and Windows devices have different strengths (and weaknesses). In this session\, we will explore each platform\, covering each of the following areas:\n\n Price\n\n Security\n\n Longevity\n\n Portability\n\n Compatibility\n\n Features\n\nThere is no substitute for doing your own research\, so we will also provide you with some resources that will be helpful when preparing to make a hardware purchase for your business.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nPart 2\n\nAs a small business owner\, or independent professional\, you have to decide what software you are going to use to run your business. Sometimes the hardware you are using determines the software you can use. The good news though\, is that software is increasingly hardware agnostic. The bad news is that means you have choices and therefore decisions to make.\n\nIn this session we will address which software programs work exclusively on a particular platform and which are platform agnostic. We will look at popular programs such as:\n\n\n	\n	Microsoft Office\n	\n	\n	Apple Productivity suite (Pages\, Numbers\, Keynote)\n	\n	\n	Google productivity suite (Docs\, Sheets\, Slides)\n\n	Please feel free to bring your experiences to the discussion. Our goal in this session is to increase your awareness of all the options you have. Hearing your peers' experiences will help you develop a personal checklist to guide your decision-making.
