SUMMARY:High School Poetry Night at The Book Stall!
DESCRIPTION:The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) is excited to host student poets from New Trier and Highland Park High Schools\, led by teachers John O'Connor and Faisal Mohyuddin. They'll read from their poetry and short prose at this popular annual event held on Tuesday\, May 16 at 6:30 pm!  This program is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served\, and the audience (and participants) will be eligible for cool poetry and writing-related raffle prizes!\n\n \n\nFaisal Mohyuddin is the author of The Displaced Children of Displaced Children (Eyewear Publishing\, 2018) and The Riddle of Longing (Backbone\, 2017). He teaches English at Highland Park High School in Illinois and creative writing at Northwestern University\, and he serves as a Master Practitioner for the global not-for-profit Narrative 4.\n\n\n\nJohn S. O'Connor's poems have appeared in places such as Poetry East and RHINO. He has written two books on teaching: This Time It's Personal: Teaching Academic Writing through Creative Nonfiction (2011) and Wordplaygrounds: Reading\, Writing\, and Performing Poetry in the English Classroom (2004). He earned his BA and MAT from the University of Chicago and his PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has taught for 25 years in a wide variety of settings\, including the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools\, Pennsylvania State University\, urban public and parochial schools\, an adult literacy center\, and a maximum-security prison. In 2007\, he was named a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction. O'Connor currently teaches at New Trier High School in Winnetka\, Illinois.\n\n \n\nThe Book Stall is an independent bookstore and cultural institution on Chicago's North Shore.
