Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
Vivid Art Gallery will host a First Friday Art Opening on August 3rd. The event, which runs from 5-8 PM, is open to all and is free of charge. In addition to great art, there will also be refreshments and live music.
During the month of August, the gallery will be presenting a joint show of new work entitled What’s New. A collection of recent work by gallery artists, the exhibit will include work by Indiana artists Amie Campbell, Jamas Brooke, Dorothy Alig, and Debra Delbecq, as well as Chicago artists Jane D’Angelo and Lucie Phillips.
In addition to the work by these Indiana artists, the gallery will also be showing new work by Chicago-area artists Jane D’Angelo and Lucie Phillips.
Campbell’s work is defined by her trademark brilliant colors, reflecting the beauty and splendor she sees in the rolling hills surrounding her studio in southern Indiana. Her colors, all of them mixed according to her own special “recipes.” She also makes great use of glazes, which add transparency to her colors in an effect that mimics light and make her paintings come alive.
Jamas Brooke, a ceramicist from just outside of Bloomington, creates work consisting mainly of Raku-fired vessels. In the Raku method, meaning that once the piece is fired the oxygen surrounding it is reduced. This enables the smoke to take effect, resulting in beautiful and unpredictable surfaces. Brooke’s work is both functional and decorative, ranging from sushi sets to large vessels.
Alig works in acrylic on paper, layering pattern upon pattern including her signature “dots.” The results are a complex composition of color and form that feels fresh and spontaneous.
Delbecq creates both abstract landscape and non-objective paintings of her surroundings, capturing the feeling of the wind, weather, and fields as they interact. She fills large canvases with broad strokes of vibrant color, using an etching tool to carve the patterns of nature into the paint.
D’Angelo is an impressionist landscape artist and for her, it is always light and its effects, subtle or dramatic, that provide inspiration. Each of her paintings represents a moment in time when light influences colors, values and shapes in a captivating way.
Phillips’ inspiration comes from her observations of nature, the changing environment motivates and energizes her work, abstract landscapes in tones of blues and greens. Phillips’ work is all about telling a story.
In addition to the art opening at Vivid, Hubbard Woods will once again celebrate First Fridays with its featured “Cocktail Hop.” Stop by Vivid, then browse the shops of Hubbard Woods, a number which will be open and serving a signature cocktail. Details are available at www.shophubbardwoods.com.
